Appraisal Services

Given our expertise in both auctions and professional appraisals, American Auction Company brings an understanding and perspective to the appraisal process that few competitors can match.

Typically, our appraisals are based upon auction sale pricing comparables, among other factors. By regularly monitoring both our own and other auctions around the world, American Auction Company's research staffers and appraisers accumulate valuable knowledge, resulting in timely, accurate and fully supportable appraisals.

We base our professional appraisal services on three critical elements:

  • A comprehensive database of comparable recent sales. This is an invaluable tool that helps us make predictions about potential value. American Auction Company’ staff of appraisers and researchers invests considerable time in gathering and updating this information.
  • Knowledge of the marketplace, the realities of the buy-sell equation, and the likelihood that a particular collection of assets can be readily converted into a specific amount of cash. This quality is a function of experience, which all of our appraisers possess.
  • Respect for the professional appraisal function and the understanding that it is more science than art. Accuracy is vital. An appraisal that is too conservative may prompt a bank to refuse a loan. If the appraised value is too high and the business should later fail, the bank will not be adequately protected. Appraisals are a precise business; American Auction Company understands this and approaches each appraisal seriously.

Speed and Accuracy of our Appraisal Services

The heart of American Auction Company’s appraisal services is a proprietary database management system that stores and organizes all pricing information gathered from our auctions and many other sources. As American Auction Company’ appraisers return from their appraisal field review, our system allows them to organize newly-collected data and assist in cross-referencing items with available valuation information.

This process gives the appraiser a clear overview of values – which are then refined based on the appraiser's experience, judgment and on-site observations. Finally, the system generates the appraisal document, exercising a number of built-in, fail-safe mechanisms to eliminate common clerical errors. As a result, American Auction Company can provide an accurate, professional appraisal based upon a host of supportable data, experienced judgment and technological precision.

Valuation Concepts Properly Applied

In professional appraisal services, American Auction Company serves all segments of the business and financial community at large. We structure appraisals pursuant to mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, asset-based financing, allocation of purchase price and insurance studies. We also offer appraisals to resolve the difficulties of ad valorem tax issues, pre and post-acquisition financing, current value accounting and estates.
